<image:caption>The Supercomputing Conference is one of the largest conferences for high-performance computing, networking, storage and analysis with over 10,000+ people in attendance. For DDN Storage, this is the most important conference of the year for attracting new customers to our business. As the designer in charge of creating the booth graphics for production, below is a sample of my process from initial concept to final display for DDN’s SC18 booth and our western-themed giveaways and party invite. Because of the joint success of DDN’s messaging and after party, DDN was able to bring in many new customers into its ever-growing portfolio of data storage success stories.</image:caption>

<image:title>WORKS - Branding - Splinter Cell: Blacklist Branding Concepts</image:title>
<image:caption>Ubisoft approached Hamagami & Carroll to create new, yet thematically-familiar branding identities, keyart and packaging concepts for the newest entry in Tom Clancy’s recognizable Splinter Cell series. At the time, three other designers and I contributed to the project by incorporating Splinter Cell’s iconic visual style and intense thematic elements into our branding concepts. For my concepts, I took a more action movie approach for my concepts (though the game highlights more stealth style of gameplay) to convey the exciting and thrilling nature of the modern military setting. I combined sharp typography with close-up cropping of key art to create a branding concept that would appeal to both fans of stealth and action-heavy games.</image:caption>

<image:title>WORKS - Print & Web - LARGE PRINT</image:title>
<image:caption>Sometimes, you need something BIG to get your message across to multiple individuals at once, whether inside a small conference room or a trade show with thousands of people walking by. Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to create large-scale designs for some pretty big-named clients. Below are some samples: Medtronic Trade Show Graphics - Medtronic had approached Hamagami & Carroll to create several trade show booth graphics advertising their extensive glucose monitor line of products. I went with concepts that centered on large product imagery, short lines of text and leading lines to guide the viewer’s eyes in a visually appealing way. Google Office Infographic Poster - After conducting an in-depth research on the different types of internet users, Google reached out to Hamagami & Caroll to create a set of infographic posters that could be displayed in their offices. This was my very first project during my time at the studio and I approached the poster designs with a structured layout that can easily be filled in with content. By using these posters, Google staff would have the necessary data to help development and expansion of current and future Google products and services. DDN Pull-Up Banners - Along with trade show graphics, I had created over 50 pull-up banners for DDN, ranging from product advertising to industry highlights. These banners would help complement our trade show messaging all across the globe.</image:caption>

<image:title>WORKS - Print & Web - SMALL PRINT</image:title>
<image:caption>There is something very intimate and personal when you are able to hold something in the palm of your hand. Whether it’s a rare collectible card or free giveaways from a convention booth, small items you can keep can sometimes make an even bigger impact than a 20-foot sign. Below are some examples of my small-sized work: Botanical Alchemy Holographic Die Cut Sticker - A friend from the East Coast had hired me to help with her health and beauty brand. She wanted to have a memorable sticker which she could include in her orders, so after some research and inspiration, I had created a special die cut sticker which would be printed on holographic paper. The shine and luster of the holographic sticker accentuates the holistic nature of Botanical Alchemy, and her customers absolutely love the stickers! Solene Velvet CD - CDs aren’t dead! With the resurgence of retro aesthetics and analog technology, my singer-songwriter friend Solene enlisted my help to design her limited-edition EP. Using photos she had taken from a photoshoot and Japanese-translated lines from her songs, I created a 90s-inspired “international edition” design to match her anime-inspired look and lo-fi jazz/hip-hop music. Once the CDs were produced, they were sent out globally to her fans!</image:caption>

<image:title>WORKS - Print & Web - WEB GRAPHICS</image:title>
<image:caption>Print may not be dead, but we are also living in an increasingly internet-dependent world. As such, it’s a necessity to have web design and web graphics for information and advertisement. Aside from print projects, I have also had opportunities to work on graphics and layouts for websites, including mobile. Here are a few examples: DDN HPCWire Ads - HPCWire is a well-known news site covering the supercomputing industry and DDN is a continued proud sponsor of the site. As such, I had regularly created ads for DDN to be displayed on HPCWire to promote new products or events we would be at. With over hundreds of thousands of visitors to the site monthly, DDN ads always had eyes on them and eventually organic visits to our site. Botanical Alchemy Store Banner & Instagram Cover Art - Keeping in step with the holistic and organic theme of Botanical Alchemy’s health and beauty brand, I assisted in creating a web banner and Instagram story cover art that carried the same thematic imagery and visual elements.</image:caption>

<image:title>WORKS - Logo Design - DDN STORAGE</image:title>
<image:caption>Founded in 1998, DataDirect Networks (DDN) has been a prominent leader in the data storage industry despite it being a privately-held company. With over 11,000 customers ranging from life sciences, to high-performance computing and AI, DDN provides reliable storage solutions that can scale for any data storage need. During my time at DDN, the company was in need of a shift from its original logo to a brand new identity. The word “Networks” sometimes led to a misunderstanding of DDN being a network business rather than a data storage company. So, the goal was to create an identity that incorporated the initials DDN, the word “Storage” and a visual element to represent the concept of storage. The logo likewise needed to retain the red color to convey speed, power and innovation amongst our blue-laden competitors. Through many iterations, the final logo was selected and subsequently placed on dozens of tradeshow graphics, thousands of sheets of paper and displayed proudly on products which are still used to this day.</image:caption>

<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/60fa121667f2ce1e53d50dde/1627111948392-QRF4IZQZ5WT2MX0PVIDJ/disney-replay-logo.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>WORKS - Logo Design - Disney Replay</image:title>
<image:caption>With such hits such as Hannah Montana, That’s So Raven and Lizzie McGuire, Disney sought to create a programming block (which would later became a stand-alone TV channel) that would be a proper home for these beloved original shows. And so, Disney Replay was conceived. However, it needed a proper logo and that’s where design studio Hamagami & Caroll stepped in. During my time as a freelance designer there, I was assigned to this project. I had mulled over a few themes such as “rewinding” but eventually settled on the theme of “analog to digital” to convey the idea of the evolution of how we now consume TV as a whole. No longer do we need to wait daily for our favorite shows to air, but now we can save those episodes on our DVRs for unlimited “replay” viewing. Below are the various logo concepts I designed as well as some samples of the style and color inspiration behind the “analog to digital”-themed logos.</image:caption>

<image:title>WORKS - Logo Design - Kame.Ko Catering</image:title>
<image:caption>Teppanyaki is a post-World War II style of Japanese cuisine wherein a skilled, entertaining chef uses an iron griddle is used to cook food in front of the guests. My cousin-in-law, a professional Japanese teppanyaki chef with almost a decade of experience, approached me with a project to create a logo for his new catering business. He specifically requested that the logo contain three stacked “kame” (Japanese for “turtle”) and the characters for “itame” (Japanese for “stir fry”). Rather than settling on a logo that’s clean and modern, I went with a textured, hand-crafted style to reflect the intimate nature of a teppanyaki dinner. Though it’s popular to use “cute” anime style illustrations, I instead opted for a silhouette of the three turtles within a red circle to create a recognizable, versatile icon while simultaneously paying homage to Japanese culture and cuisine. Incorporating the “itame” into the O made sense, being that your stir fry dinner will be served on your plate! Though this project was smaller in scale than other logos I’ve created, I felt this was an important work to highlight as I feel that Kame.Ko channels that Japanese spirit of persistence, resolve and talent to achieve one’s goals.</image:caption>
